Cummins Inc., one of the world’s leading engine manufacturers, presents the Cummins Chairman Quality Award for the best Six Sigma projects each year. For the first time this year the award was presented to a supplier – the Brazilian crankshaft manufacturer ThyssenKrupp Metalúrgica Campo Limpo.
The joint project, involving experts from Cummins and the Crankshaft business group, was launched in connection with the new order to produce the "MY07” crankshaft for Chrysler. Featuring in the new 6.7 liter engine of the Dodge RAM pickup, the crankshaft will be forged and machined by ThyssenKrupp Metalúrgica Campo Limpo. With the aid of the Six Sigma tools Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control, the project team successfully repeated the 100 percent quality level attained with the predecessor model in 2005. This will prevent additional costs caused by engine defects. |
